People are sleeping on Christian rap, but artist like Lecrae and Reach Records labelmate Trip Lee are forcing them to wake up. Hailing from Houston, Lecrae combines lyrics that compel sinners to come to Christ over smooth Southern beats that still serve as cruising music on a beautiful summer day. Since I first heard their collab ‘Jesus Muzik’ in ’08, I knew these two would change the face of Christian rap forever. Trip Lee dropped “The Good Life” album which month, which is currently #6 on the gospel charts, while Lecrae took a different route more recently. Earlier this month he and Don Cannon collaborated on ‘Church Clothes’, a mixtape that adresses a variety of subjects and has received hundreds of thousands of downloads through popular secular sights like DatPiff.com and LiveMixtapes.com. It’s definitely a contender for May’s mixtape of the month. Below is the video to the single ‘Church Clothes’. Many will find it to be controversial bc he seems to be adressing problems in the church. But take a closer listen, this song is more complex than it seems. Listen and watch the official video below.
